To celebrate the start of the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo, Taipei City Government will be organizing a major firework spectacle at two separate locations on November 6.

Starting at 9 PM, the “2010 Taipei International Flora Expo Opening Fireworks and Dadaocheng Fireworks Festival” will kick off with a 30-minute-long firework display at Dajia Riverside Park, followed by another round of pyrotechnics at Dadaocheng wharf.

There will also be a pop concert at the Dadaocheng venue between 6:00 PM and 10:30 PM featuring celebrities such as YaoYao, Nicky Lee, Kenji Wu, and more.
According to the city government, the pyrotechnic extravaganza will use up to 110,000 shells to light up the skies over both the venues of the Flora Expo and Dadaocheng on Saturday night.

Beginning with the fashion show taking place at the Palace of Flora Teas on November 4, the series of opening activities continue with an award ceremony for the floral arts competition to honor the winners among the participating countries and cities, as well as the staging of “The First Lily” – a major production by Ping-Fong Acting Troupe on Friday night. The events will come to a climax on Saturday, with the opening ceremony, evening party/concert, and firework display.

For the event on Saturday night, the organizers have invited stars and performance groups including Chen Yen-ling, Chen Mei-ling, Lin Yu-chun, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, and Taipei Philharmonic Youth and Children’s Choir. In addition to local groups such as Jyou-tian Folk Drum and Arts Group, Diabolo Dance Theatre, and Formosa Aboriginal Song and Dance Troupe. The audience will also be able to witness the exotic shows featuring performers from Hawaii, Indonesia, and Thailand.

According to Chief Chiu Peng-hsin of Taipei Broadcasting Station, the fireworks show is expected to attract at least 800,000 viewers. He pointed out the highlights of the event on Saturday night include a fireworks competition featuring teams from five different nations, the “Red Lantern Fireworks”, and “Taiwan Map Fireworks” at Dadaocheng.

The organizers of the firework show wish to remind the public of the following:
-Parking is difficult in the areas in the vicinity of the firework show venues. Visitors are encouraged to take public transportation.
-The police will strengthen parking enforcement in the vicinity of the venues.-Do not bring explosives or inflammable substance to the venues; as a safety measure, visitors should not ignite fireworks on their own.
-Due to changing weather, visitors should bring warm clothing.
-Visitors should prepare their own drinking water.
-Visitors are not allowed to approach the riverbanks and restricted areas.
-Do not climb up high.
-Follow the instructions of staff when entering or leaving to avoid overcrowding.
-Vehicles are prohibited from entering Watergates 1 through 6 between 6 PM and midnight on November 6.
- Drivers on nearby expressways and bridges should continue driving to ensure traffic safety; do not loiter in the driveway to watch fireworks.
- Due to the likeliness of heavy traffic near the venues, drivers should take detours to avoid traffic jams.
- No barbecues allowed in the riverside park area.
