Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2014.

It is cold 11~16C and wet Christmas season in Taiwan, the sky is not pouring but the floor is always wet!

It is very busy in December, we have
•Christmas Music Show -- 7 Little Lambs in the school on 10th morning
• Jazz Music Concert from Europe on 12th evening
•Both Christmas Music Party in the school and Christmas Gathering Party in our apartment on 19th evening.
• Colleagues gathering on 22th in Taipei, which is also the Winter Festival that we eat the round balls with red bean soup.
•A stage performance of the Christmas Music Show of The Story of Love and The 7 Little Lambs at the Hsinchu City Concert Hall on the 25th Christmas night.
•This coming Saturday the 28th evening (the 4th day of Christmas), there will be a christmas feast organized by the Church of the Rainbow kids of our school.
• New Year Count Down at Taipei 101 on 31th evening.

Of course, more to come with gathering and year end parties following the arriving of the New Year and Chinese Lunar New Year at the end of January!

David Gazarov Trio featuring Carroll Vanwelden from The Netherlands are presenting Jazz Xmas Concert in NCTU on 12/12 at 7:30pm.

ASML is the main company to organize and sponsor these concerts, which their employees will join the concerts from Hsinchu12/12 to Tainan 12/14 and lastly at Taipei on 12/15. Will sure enjoy the concert at Hsinchu tomorrow night!

爵士與古典樂雙才大衛‧卡札洛夫，從小接受嚴格的古典鋼琴訓練，跟隨俄國作曲大師蕭士塔高維契的學生學藝，進入以培養天才音樂家出名的格尼辛音樂學院，使他擁有絕佳的鋼琴演奏技巧，並在父親的影響下開始接觸爵士樂，古典與爵士在他手中開始完美的跨界結合，2010年推出《時尚蕭邦》，以爵士風格重新呈現蕭邦獨特的旋律。
大衛‧卡札洛夫說，古典樂巴哈、蕭邦的樂曲有許多音符都有爵士韻味在裡頭，他在記者會中現場演奏《咆哮蕭邦》，和爵士鼓手強尼、德國低音大提琴手舒茲巧妙搭配，只見他的雙手在黑白琴鍵上飛快穿梭，熱情激昂的樂音自琴鍵流洩而下，細膩的詮釋技巧令人嘆為觀止。
大衛接著與比利時爵士女聲卡蘿‧凡葳登一同演出《聖誕老人進城來》，輕快又富涵幽默趣味的琴聲，配上卡羅渾厚帶著搖滾的嗓音，聖誕老人彷彿真的搖擺的進城來了，現場洋溢著搖滾派對般的熱鬧氛圍。

The producer of the firm -- Beyond Beauty看見臺灣, P L Chi 齊柏林was invited to give a speech at the National Chiao Tung University Conference Hall this afternoon from 1:30 ~ 4pm.

Producer Chi has taken sky photographs for over 20 years. He mentioned that the purposes of producing this firm for 5 years and spent more than 0.9 Billions Taiwan Dollars were to show the beauties and worries of Taiwan who residence on this place.

He hopes that people in Taiwan should love it and take more active role in protect Taiwan. He used helicopter to capture the photos and scenery of Taiwan from the sky.

Kelantan, the most Malay of states, is into studying Chinese – Singapore daily

Kelantan, the "most Malay state" in Malaysia, has proportionately more Malays studying Chinese than anywhere in the country.

This surprising phenomenon was reported by the Singapore Straits Times, which noted that it was common to find Malays in the state enrolling their children in Chinese-language schools or attending Chinese-language classes offered in religious schools.

Many Kelantanese take their cue from their beloved and revered Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, the former menteri besar, whose five grandchildren are enrolled in Chinese schools.

Nik Aziz is held up as a prime example of someone who encourages the younger generation of Kelantanese to take up the Chinese language.

Kelantan, with a population of 1.6 million, is comprised of 95% Malays, the remainder made up of Chinese, Thai and Indian communities.

Although more parents in Malaysia send their children to Chinese schools and tuition classes, the concentration of Malay students in these classes is much higher in Kelantan.

The Straits Times recently went to one of the east-coast state's religious schools and saw how female students in baju kurungs and Muslim veils were learning to read and speak in Mandarin and write in Chinese.

The students attending Chinese classes at the Tarbiyah Mardhiyah Religious Secondary School were taught by 51-year old Wang Yin Kang, a Chinese-Muslim teacher from Yunnan, China.

Wang teaches Mandarin to 160 students weekly and has lived in Kelantan for 18 years. He had initially gone to the state to do a diploma in Arabic studies and decided to stay behind after being offered a position to teach Mandarin and Arabic languages in several religious schools.

"I was initially surprised that Malay students would be willing to take up Mandarin classes. Then I realised it was because they believed it would enhance their job prospects," Wang told The Straits Times.

"Many have come to realise that China is a fast-growing country and its investments are everywhere."
Some of Wang's students were also members of the Chinese language society. Under Wang's supervision, they took up drama classes and participated out dialogues in Mandarin.
It is as if many Malays in Kelantan were following to the letter a saying attributed to Prophet Muhammad, "Seek knowledge even as far as China", the paper noted.

The Kelantan state government has a role in this phenomenon – it has been funding Mandarin classes in schools, and has sent three Malay-Muslim teaching college graduates to China in 2009.

Besides sending the graduates to China to learn Mandarin, the state government has also hired teachers from China to come to Malaysia to conduct Mandarin classes.

Although statistics on Malay student enrollment in public Chinese vernacular schools is not readily available, PAS's non-Muslim wing, the PAS Supporters Congress, said it was a fair number.
The wing's chairman Hu Pang Chaw told The Straits Times that between 20% and 50% of the student population in Kelantan's 15 Chinese primary and two secondary schools were Malays.
Hu revealed that two-thirds of the students population in a Chinese primary school in Rantau Panjang were Malays.

In contrast, there is only an average of 10% Malay students enrolled at Chinese vernacular schools in other states.

Researcher Heng Buai Chin said the Kelantan government's move to encourage Malay students to enrol in Chinese vernacular schools promotes integration among students of other races.

"Malay students in Chinese vernacular schools tend to be more open to accepting Chinese culture such as movies, counting and thinking in Chinese," she was quoted by The Straits Times as saying.
This is perhaps illustrated by Form Five student Wan Ashikin Ismail, who attends a Chinese vernacular school, said her best friends were Chinese and they conversed in Mandarin.

"I am not treated differently by students or teachers. I am also constantly motivated to excel in my studies," said the 16-year-old who aspired to be a Mandarin novelist in the future, as quoted by the paper. – October 7, 2013.

會噴水的高級海參和棕橘色的馬糞海膽--- 小琉球

The kids are having two weeks swimming course at the H2O SPA center. Today is the last day of their course. It was crowded with pupils especially during the hot summer holiday.

 Typhoon Suli is approaching, the center will close early at 6pm this evening to avoid the heavy storm and rain. Now, the weather is mostly sunny with some shower rain.

Some workers come to the center because the government announced not to school or work this afternoon after 2pm.

We will come again to spend our summer here.

小琉球地標---花瓶岩淨灘!

花瓶岩附近水域是小琉球最靠近碼頭、遊客浮潛、戲水、看台灣本島、看海、看日出等最富盛名的好場所，故遊客很多!

淨灘時，檢拾到很多大大小小的酒瓶玻璃碎片，有黑的、綠的、白的等散佈在花瓶岩附近的水中、沙灘上，直接危害到穿著輕便涼拖或光腳的居民與遊客的安全。沙灘上還有許多用保麗龍、紙做的飲料瓶和塑膠袋等! 導遊說花瓶岩附近海岸是綠蠵龜覓食的主要場所之一。綠蠵龜被發現死時肚中有很多塑膠袋，因牠們會把水中的塑膠袋當成水母來吃。

喜愛小琉球的人呀：「請帶走您們帶來的飲料和垃圾，並勿再丟棄玻璃瓶了吧!」感恩!

Why I have the idea of beach cleaning at Vase Rock?

After we arrived yesterday, our friend bought us to this site which is the landmark of the Little Okinawa. The kids are fairly happy to play in the water near the beach, but we found the beach were scatter with broken alcoholic glasses on the beach and in the water. Most of the people playing on the beach just wearing slipper or simply bare their feet which threaten by the scatter glasses.  What a terrible experience! So I decided to spend some time on the beach cleaning.

Despite the black, green, white broken glasses, I also collected many PE or paper drink cups and bags that hold the cups. The tourist guard told us that the turtles were found dead with lot of plastic bags in their stomach because the turtle swallow the bags as they tought that they were the jelly fishes they like to eat.

People who like the island, pls bring along your drink containers and wastes back to the shore and don't throw any glasses to the beach. Let's keep the beautiful island clean and safe! Appreciated!

TW- 6th, July, 2013 (Sat, Sunny, 32-35C) PingTung District 屏東縣 : Small Okinawa 小琉球

We visit the small Okinawa that located south of Taiwan in Pingtung District today.

Yesterday evening, we drove 4 hours heading south from Hsinchu to TungGang 東港鎭, then stayed over night there.

This morning, the boat took us 15mins from TungGang harbor to the coral island -- Small Okinama.

It is a beautiful island with beautiful beaches, flower stone, very fresh sea food, and yummy mangos that made into pure Mango Shake 芒果冰沙!

On the island, most of the people travel by motorcycle as there are hills all over the island. If you like to visit some interesting sight of views, it will be very hard if you walk or travel by bike. Moreover, it is not suitable for the car too, as some of the lanes are too small for the car, though there are some travel buses service on the island.

Tomorrow at 2pm, we will visit the farest low tide area 最遠的潮間帶during this period of time to see the creatures under the sea. We will spend 2 nights and 3 days on the island. The kids love driving and swimming near the beaches.

吃水果抗皺防老化？營養師指出，年過25就要開始準備「抗皺」，除可多攝取含膠原蛋白食物外，其中7種「美容水果」富含維生素A、C，具抗氧化功能，不僅可以養顏美容，同時可以緩解肌膚皺紋浮現，不過，建議水果不要天天吃同一種，而應多樣化攝取，讓肌膚能充分吸收不同營養素，達到緩解老化皺紋的目標。

台安醫院營養師劉怡里指出，皺紋的預防，除了改善不良生活習慣、保持良好心情、加強防曬、合理使用化妝保養品之外；其實，飲食與皺紋有絕對的關係。飲食若吃對了，就有足夠的營養供給，幫助延緩肌膚老化速度，預防皺紋產生。

3大營養素防皺紋增生

1.膠原蛋白：膠原蛋白是皮膚結構中的支架及彈簧，支撐著皮膚。隨著年齡的增長，膠原 蛋白會不斷流失，真皮組織會塌陷，皮膚會鬆弛，出現皺紋。吃富含膠原蛋白的膠質食物，有助延緩皮膚老化，讓肌膚緊緻有彈性。
